The search for a summer production for 2005 resulted in Act 1 Theatre facing the challenge of staging its own adaptation of a musical, and setting it to new orchestral arrangements.

"All 4 One" looked certain to be a particularly hard act to follow, but the re-worked version of "Destiny" proved itself more than equal to the challenge and the company staged the North West premiere of this stunning musical for a week long run from Monday, July 11th until Saturday, July 16th.

"Destiny", by librettist Gary Sullivan and composer, Chris Hatt underwent a considerable transformation for the Act 1 production resulting in a show which audiences described as "the best yet", and saw Gary Sullivan, who came up from London for the final performance of the show, delighted with the outcome... "the complexities of the music, the twists and turns of a powerfully rich story and the very guts to present something as thought provoking as Destiny, made this an evening to remember and all connected to it need to give themselves a big pat on the back for giving us a great night out and memorable and moving theatrical experience."

Combining the classical themes of 2 literary masterpieces, Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, Gary Sullivan's poignantly crisp story is a touching tribute to the love one man has for his family and his vow to return to them from the spirit world when he is wrongfully convicted and hanged for the murder of a young girl in the village. When he returns, he carries with him the spirit of a criminal bent on revenge for his untimely death during a brawl in the local inn. A war of wits and character culminates in a battle between good and evil, and with good the victor, the sentiments of love, loss, fear and revenge are brought together in a finale of sadness, but uplifting confidence in the spirit of man.

Chris Hatt's music soars through the emotions with its unique blend of ballads, gutsy choruses and catchy couplets.

The re-write provided the company with the opportunity to stage special effects which left audiences stunned, whilst the mix of comedy, tragedy and a love story on two levels kept them entranced throughout the show.

Destiny has taken Act 1 to a new level of performance and technical expertise with the potential for ever more challenging productions in the future.
