This was a breathtaking show which carried both cast and audience along on a roller coaster ride as it showcased Robert Louis Stevenson's stunning novel through the genre of Musical Theatre. Audiences enthused that, with a tight knit cast, outstanding principal performances and stunning special effects it was "Act 1 Theatre's best production yet".

Due to extensive refurbishment work being carried out at CHADS Theatre, the venue for their 2006 production, the company were once again in search of a theatre in which to showcase this challenging and compelling musical, and were delighted to find a warm welcome just down the road at the Playhouse Theatre on Anfield Road. Many thanks are due to the Players for their hospitality and support throughout the run of the show.

Dr Henry Jekyll & his father

Originally conceived for the stage by Steve Cuden and Frank Wildhorn, when first performed, this stunning production took Broadway by storm. The musical is based on the novella, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson which he was prompted by a dream to write in 1886, having spent some years looking for a story that would fit his "strong sense of man's double being". In the event he wrote the whole story in just three days, but then burnt the original draft and rewrote it as an allegory. Sermons on its moral lessons were preached from the pulpit of St Paul's Cathedral, and the "shilling shocker" became a best seller. Certainly, for Act 1 Theatre it became a groundbreaking show which took its cast and audiences to a new level of Musical Theatre experience.
